PONY RACING INQUIRY.
FURTHER ALLEGATIONS.
BETTING BY STEWARDS.
I Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 7. At the pony racing inquiry further evidence was forthcoming from pony owners, trainers, and others of alleged collusion between owners and bookmakers, bogus betting, fielding " dead uns " and betting by stewards. One witness declared that tho present control was a regime of despotism. It was also alleged that some stewards were notorious bettors. They accepted big commissions from bookmakers and stampeded the ring. Another charge was that stewards relied largely upon third degree methods of conducting inquiries. Combatting evidence, particularly in defence of stewards, was submitted.
