UNCORKED BENZINE TIN.
INFANT FATALLY BURNED. COMMENT BY A CORONER. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Friday. An inquest was hold to-day concerning the death of Leslie Bruce Ellis, aged 10 months, who died on Sunday as the result of burns received the previous day. Evidence showed that the boy's mother was using a benzine iron while a tin containing a gallon of benzine was standing, uncorked, on the floor. Deceased, while crawling on the floor, spilt the benzine, his clothes being saturated. The child cried, and the mother,- not notioing that the benzine had been spilt, picked the child up. The heat from the iron ignited "the fumes coming from the saturated clothes. The child was immediately placed in a bath and the flames were extinguished. >' The coroner commented upon the necessity for taking every precaution when using benzine +o keep children away from it. A verCi'ct of death from shock, due to burns accidentally caused by the ignition of the child's clothing, was returned.
