ADVERTISING ON TRAMS.
HIGHER TENDER REJECTED.
LEGAL ACTION THREATENED. [BX TELEGRAPH.- CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Friday. A formal •warning of possible legal action to prevent the corrtplefcn of the proposed contract for advertising on corporation trams, etc., between the City | Council and an advertising firm has been J received by the town clerk from the legal representatives of the second tendering firm. The letter states that the writers have been instructed to take proceedings to prevent the completion of the proposed contract on the ground that the ratepayers ! are being improperly burdened with an additional amount of between £8000 and £9000 in rates which might, have been avoided. The action of the corporation in accepting the lower tender is claimed to be unjustifiable, unfair to the tenderers, and a breach of trust to the ratepayers. Notice of motion to rescind the resolution passed at the last meeting of the City Council, accepting the lower tender, has already been given, and the question will no doubt be again argued at the next meeting of the council.
