MANY - YOUNG 'FISH/ TAKEN. :GOVERNOR TO TEST RIVER. ' -.. :."■■ ■ i -. . •■'■■■ :■ * [»T TELEGRAPH.—-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] '..•,''.'. TAUMARITNUI. Monday. ' Many anglers' were out on tho rivers this morning for the opening of the fishing season, * and met with ■<■ varying success. Prospects for the - season are remarkably good. The fish this morning were biting well.' ."- v -- A notable feature was the number of young fish landed, due, no doubt, to the fact that the rivers, especially the Wanganui, are continually being stocked with fry. Licenses are selling freely, and so far 130 have . been issued in Taumarunui alone. y Shags, which do . much to spoil v r the sport, are fairly numerous on the WanI ganui River. Members oil the local Rod and Gun Club organised a hunt for the marauders during the week-end, .-. and secured 20. ' "\ ':.'■'■..;
The Governor-General, \ Lord Jolliooe, will spend part of to-morrow afternoon fishing on the Wanganui.: ■ .
