-REFERENCE TO COMMITTEE.

PARTY'S SATISFACTION. By TelegTaph—Press Association Copyright. (Received 5.25 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, April 12. In the House of Commons to-day on the motion to go into Committee of Supply, Mr. J. D. Millar, Liberal member for Fife, moved that a select committee be appointed to inquire into the matter of salaries of ex-temporary servants entering the Civil Service. Ho said the events on Tuesday ought to convince the Government of its obligation in the matter. Mr. G. W. S. Jarrett, National-Liberal for Dartford, in seconding the motion, protested against the attempt fto make party capital out of the question. This remark elicited angry exclamations from the Labour' benches. Tho Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, said he was satisfied there was a general desire for immediate inquiry. Mr. Ramsay Macdonald, Leader of the Labour Party, expressed the party's satisfaction at Mr. Baldwin's announcement. Mr. Millar withdrew his motion on the Government's assurance that .it would refer the question to the existing committee on salaries. - SHARPLY REPRIMANDED. MR. MACDONALD'S WARNING. A. and N.Z. LONDON, April 12. After the melee in the House of Commons yesterday, Mr. Ramsay Macdonald summoned a meeting of the Labour Party. He sharply reprimanded the members for singing the "Red Flag," and urged them to confine their protests to recognised Parliamentary methods. He made it clear that his continuance of the leadership depended upon the party conducting itself in a constitutional way.
