OCCUPATION OF IRAK.
TRUSTEESHIP FOR ARABS.
LONDON, March 2. The campaign in favour of Britain's withdrawal from Irak was revived in the House of Commons on the occasion of a vote of £813,000 necessitated by the stoppage of military reductions in Irak vhen the Turks threatened an invasion last year. The Government spokesmen were non-committal. Mr. W. Ormsby-Gore, Under-Secretary for the Colonics, declared : " Anyhow, wo are not going out of Irak at the point of the Turkish bayonet." Nobody su~"ested that Mesopotamia would ever form part of the British Empire. Britain's policy was to hand over in increasing proportion the functions of government to the Arab rulers, in order that at the earliest moment Irak might become an independent sovereign State. Mr. Ormsby-Gore declared that the period of occupation depended on Turkey and on the nature of the peace treaty. The vote was carried by 268 to 194.
