LONDON'S NEW CRAZE.
GAME OF " MAH-JONGG."
TWO THOUSAND YEARS OLD.
LONTX)N, March 3. London has been gripped by a new game, says the Daily Mail, which is played in the United States so largely as almost to supplant bridge. It is a sort of dominoes called " MahJongg," and is of Chinese origin. It was the rage in China 2000 years ago and was also popular in Japan. It is played with 136 pieces called " tiles," similar to dominoes, but made of bamboo and faced with bone. These bear coloured Chinese ideographs. It is disconcerting to come on a party of Mah-Jongg enthusiasts. The only sound one hears is muttering of " pong" and " chow." as the players claim scores. Inquests are held after the game in reference to matters such as " eight of tung" or why " east wind" should be played or his" " red dragon."
