FUNERAL AT PAEROA.

[by telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA, Tuesday. The funeral of the late Mr. G. A. Wilson and his daughter, Miss M. Wilson, took place at Paeroa, and was one of th» largest attended ever seen in the district. Miss Wilson, in stepping off a moving tramoar in Auckland, on March 8, when on her way to see her dying father, sustained injuries which caused her death. General and deep sympathy is felt for Mr». Wilson and family. The late Mr. Wilson was a very popular and well-known figure in this district, being closely associated with all matters pertaining to the wellfare of the farming community. He was the founder of the Paeroa Engineering Company, and a few years ago cut up and sold a large estate of some 1600 acres, known as the Wirihana Estate, on the Hauraki Plains, near Paeroa. The deceased was a very active member of the Hauraki Agricultural Association, and also a staunch supporter of the Paeroa Presbyterian Church.

TRAMWAYMEN NOT TO BLAME.

The circumstances of the death of Miss Margaret Wilson, aged 24, who died at the Auckland Hospital on Friday afternoon from injuries received through a fall from a tram in Symonds Street the previous day, were investigated at the adjourned inquest, held "by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., yesterday. Mr. Mackay watched proceedings on behalf of the City Council. Sergeant Flanagan represented the police. Miss Wilson and her mother, visitors from Paeroa, were passengers by an out-ward-bound Dominion Road car- After it had left the Grafton Bridge stop they both went on to the front platform, and either stepped off or fell when. the tram was in motion. Mrs, Wilson was not injured. George S. Kerr, a passenger on the tram, said he saw deceased falling. Her mother fell first. The tram was travelling at about 15 miles an hour, and was pulled up in about two lengths after Mrs. Wilson fell. The motorman, John Parks, said that when the tram was between two slopping places he saw someone fall off. He applied his brakes and saw someone else jump off. The car waa travelling at about 12 miles an hour, and was pulled up in about a length from where deceased got off. She fell heavily and struck the back of her head. After the accident deceased's mother told witness she thought the car had stopped. There was nothing to justify this. Frederick Butler, conductor on the tram, Baid he saw the two ladies leave the car and go on to the front platform. He saw deceased's mother fall off, but did not see deceased fall. After the accident he asked deceased's mother why she did not ring the bell, and she said she had overlooked it. The coroner returned a verdiot that death was due to fracture of the skull and injuries to the brain, due to ge.ttinj ! off the tram when it was in motion There was no blame attachable to the motorman or the conductor.
