AUCKLAND WEEKLY NEWS.
TO-DAY'S EDITION.
MANY FINE ILLUSTRATIONS.
For variety and general excellence the illustrations published in to-day's issue of the Auckland Weekly News reach a very high standard. Many exceptionally interesting subjects are featured, and the wide range covered is sure to make an appeal to all readers. Of particular interest ia a fine series of views, taken at the scene of Lord Carnarvon's great "find" in Egypt, showing the first of the treasures being removed from the tomb of Tutankhamen. Mr. Howard Carter superintended the work, and the photographs show the great cars with which the priceless objects were handled. A most striking double-page is devoted to wild pig hunting in the picturesque country on the upper reaches of the Wanganui River Recent events of interest in New Zealand include the North Island Band Contest at New Plymouth and a full page of snapshots of the National Rifle Association's championships at Trentham, showing the winners of all the" principal events. On another page are reproduced views of most remarkable rock formation, known as the Pinnacles, situated near Cape Palliser, Wellington Province. Although only 30 miles from the capital city, little is known of these singular cliffs and pinnacles, as the only means of access is through very wild country. The pictures are believed to be the first that have been secured. Sporting items this week include the Australasian Ladies' Swimming Championships in Sydney, at which the New Zealand swimmers, Misses G. Shand and V. Walrond, met with such great success. There are some fine fishing pictures from Taupo and the Bay of Islands, while the Ellerslie Queen Carnival is also a feature. Among many other subjects are the following: The railway accident on the West Coast to Christchurch line; students of Napier Boys' High School; the Governor-General and Lady Jellicoe entertained by the Caledonian Society at Takapau, Hawke's Bay; conference of the New Zealand United Fire Brigades' Association at Dunedin ; recent views of the prosperous town of Hawera. Taranaki; floods in the Pahiattia district; Japan's national sport; yacht racing at Wellington for the Mills Cup; British military activities at the Dardanelles, and the first metropolitan show to be held at Greymouth, Westland.
