MAIN TRUNK TRAINS.
DISCUSSION AT HAMILTON.
ALTERATIONS SUGGESTED.
[BY. TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. Strong comment on the railway service as it affects Hamilton was passed at the meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last night. The opinion was expressed that the Wellington-Auckland express train should pass through Frankton at 6 or 7 a.m. instead of at 3.40 a.m. as at present. Mr. H. A. Whitaker described the New Zealand railways as the worst in the world, and said they were not improving. He commented on the unseemly scramble which occurred at the barrier at the Auckland station, and described the condition there as disgraceful. Mr. Whitaker described the system of handling passenger traffic in England and America, and said that although there was a hundred times more traffic at stations in these countries than there was at Auckland, there was nothing of the unpleasantness which occurred at the latter place when trains were about to depart. The chamber passed a resolution asking that the Wellington-Auckland express be delayed to leave Frankton at 6 a.m. A motion urging the department to construct a subway at Frankton was also passed.
