NATIONAL PARK HOSTEL.
PROPOSED SITE DISCUSSED. BOARD MEMBER'S OPINION. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN COEEESPONEENT.] WANGANTJI. Tuesday. There appears to be some difference of opinion as to the site of the proposed hostel at Tongariro National Park. Mr. W. Salt, who is a member of the recently appointed Board of Control of the park, referred to this aspect at last night's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. He said that several members of the board wanted the hostel to be erected on a site that was bleak and cold, and where there was no vegetation. Shelter trees would have' to be planted, and it would be many years before these would provide adequate shelter. , _ ' The site that others, including himseif, favoured, was near the Whakapapa hut. It would be near native bush and beautiful mountain streams. There would be plenty of shelter in rough weather and in times of storm visitors would be able to get about outside and would' not be confined to the hostel.
