OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Otahuhu Borough Council met the other evening, the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. There were ] also present: Messrs. Brady, Hall,. Nicholls, Preston, Shepherd and Whitele. The Auckland Meat Company and Messrs. W. R. Fletcher, Ltd., wrote stating that the smell at Westfield, regarding which complaints had been made, were not attributable to the' works. The letters were received. The medical officer of health wrote stating that on making an inspection at Westfield one of his inspectors nad found crude sewage and blood flowing from the outfalls at dead low tide, and that the parties concerned had been notified; that this nuisance must be stopped. The letter was received. The town clerk reported that he had received a letter from Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., to the effect that the commission appointed to inquire into the matter of Mr. E. Harding's petition for the exclusion of his property from the borough would "sit at the Courthouse, Otahuhu, on February 27. A report was received from the foreman as to the primitive nature of the conveniences at the public school fit Otahuhu, and the council decided to write to the Education Board and enter a strong protest. It was also decided to again draw the board's attention to the fact that the boxthorn • hedge*'" on the boundary of the board's property overhung the footpath to such an extent as to constitute a danger to foot passengers. • The foreman also reported with regard to an unsanitary dwelling, and the council decided, as. the owner had disregarded previous notices, to prosecute. The town clerk stated that the total quantity of water pumped during the year 1922 amounted to 28,833,000 gallons, and that the royalty payable to the Mount Richmond Domain Board would therefore bo £120 3s 2d It was decided to impose the 10 per cent, penalty on all rates unpaid after March 7. ■ '[ ■
