The Eettlers in the Lower Piraunui are?, of the Hungahunga Drainage District were called together on Friday by the board's chairman to consider a proposal for straightening and deepening that part of the drain (or creek) nearest 'to the Waitoa stream. Areas higher upstream were now empowered to contribute to the coat, and the Waiwero area would provide £530 annually, while 'the Dairy Company (which uses the waterway for its Waihou butter factory), would provide a like amount. After much discussion the meeting urged the board not to straighten the stream to any marked extent. The Waihou Polo Club is to be represented by two teams at the provincial polo tournament ' at Hamilton shortly. The Waihou teams have not yet been selected, but players have been indulging in very useful practice at every opportunity. • .V:.-";' Eight rinks of Te Aroha bowlers played an inter-club match at Paeroa on Saturday, suffering defeat in the aggregate by 168 points to 155.
