SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Feb. 13. Captain G. H. Wilkins, the r.oted Australian explorer, shortly leads an expedition to tropical Australia and the adjacent islands, under the auspices of the trustees •of the British Museum. The expedition is expected to last two years, and will collect specimens of the flora and fauna on the inland side of the mountains extending from Victoria to. Torres Strait. It will explore islands off North Queensland, paying special attention to alterations in mammalian life created by island isolation. < The expedition will have a scientific staff of five and the necessary assistants. It will travel to North Queensland by caravan, thence by auxiliary schooner. After that Captain Wilkins hopes to engage in further Australian exploration with th« aid of long-distance aeroplanes and wireless.
