In connection with a storm of protest raised against the proposal of the Post and Telegraph Department to use stamp obliterating postmarks on letters as a means of raising revenue from advertising, it is now practically certain that the scheme will not be proceeded with. Tho secretary of the department has recommended the Minister not to proceed with it, and the Hon. J. G. Coates, Postmaster-General, states that he intends to adviso tho Cabinet against tho project.
