KILLED IN MOTOR-CAR.

COMMANDED NEW ZEALANDERS

Lieutenant-General Sir George Mcntagu Harper, the corps commander under which the New Zealand Division recaptured Bapaumc in August, 1918, was killed when motoring at Sherborne, in D&rßetshire. His wife was severely injured. , The car skidded into an embankment and overturned, General Harper and his wife being pinned underneath the car.
Lieutenant-General Sir G. M. Harper, K.C.8., D.S-0., entered the army in 1884 and saw service in tho South African war, for which he' received the D.S.O. In the late war he was given the command of the IV. Corps of the Third Army, in which the New Zealand Division was incorporated for the great offensive of August, 1918, which resulted rn the capture of Bapaume. After the war General Harpw was appointed G.O.C. Southern Command. Ho was 57 years of age.
