OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

SLIGHT DAMAGE CAUSED.

PONSONBY AND STANLEY BAY

A slight outbreak of fire occurred ia a barber's shop and residence attached, at 265, Ponsonby Road, at nine o'clock last evening. The city brigade answered the call and confined the damage to a bed and bed-clothes. The premises are occupied by Mr. W. Cutts, but thero was no one in" the house at the time of the fire.

A fire occurred yesterday in the two-storeyed residence of Mr. ' H. Evans, of Calliope Road, Stanley Bay. The outbreak was discovered in its early stages, and the alarm was given by a lady, who had to climb a considerable distance up the bell-tower to reach the rope.. The brigade arrived very promptly, considering the distance it had to travel, and the fire was soon extinguished. Damage to the extent of about £25 waß done to one of the rooms in tha upper storey. The house is insured for £1700, and the contents for £500, with the New Zealand Insurance Company. A false alarm of fire was received by the city brigade at 4.30 yesterday after noon. The call came from Sharland's warehouse in Lome. Street, where it was found that the automatic ( fira alarm had run\ down, thus causing the call to be given, •DWELENG DESTROYED. • [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday. A six-roomed house at Vc.;;eltown, owned and occupied by Mr. Waaibourne. was completely destroyed by fire at two o'clock this morning, nothing being saved. Tho insurances total £1250. DAMAGE TO A TERRACE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DDNEDIN. Monday. A terrace of three houses in Carroll Street, owned by Mr. George Johns, a Syrian, was damaged by fire on Saturday night. There is an insurance of £2000 on the building. The contents were not insured. '
