LABOUR DAY CARNIVAL.

COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME.

The Labour Day celebrations in Auckland this year are to extend over a period of three clays, namely, (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, October 21 to 33. Tho arrangements are on a scale not hitherto attempted. Tho programme, conveniently divided into sections, appears to be one of a most comprehensive nature.

The proceseion promises to be larger and more attractive than ever, over £100 in prize money having been allotted to tlife different classes. The leading iraa nfeSs firms.have already notified Mr. G. Davis, the procession organiser, that they are taking part on a more extensive Kale, than heretofore.

A record number of o.ntrioß have been received iit the athletic Section. Among them are several of the Dominion'# champions. Novel features will be the tiiig-of-war contest and the wood-chop-ping and hand-sawing events. Entries in these eecticms on Friday evening. • In order to cncourage classical aanc ing, a special section for at least, eight, performers, lias been arranged. The contestants can select Morris o:r classical danoes. The visit of the Rotorua Maori singers and dancers will be another feature, and the performors will be Been each day of the carnival, . auspices of th© New Zealand Highland Dancing and Piling Association, a procrammo of Scottish, Irish and English dances will be given. A baby shew, on much larger lines than in previous years, will alw Wi included. On the Sunday afternoon an impromptu speech-making Contest will be held. Each speaker will be allowed seven minutes, and the winner will bo presented with a gold medal Tno committee in charge of the children's sports is leaving no stono unturned to make tho children's day a memorable one. All classes of sports, games, and races will bo included. A' maypole competition, open to all schools, rill bo another feature. A wrestling competition for trophies and a cup donated by Mr. " Nuggett" Thompson, and exhibitions by the latter will also eventuate.
