ZOOLOGICAL GARDENS.
PURCHASING OF ANIMALS. SYDNEY AUTHORITIES* OFFER. The matter of procuring animals for the Auckland Zoo came before the City Council last? evening, when a letter was received from the curator'of the Taionga Zoological Park Trust, Sydney, offering to act as agents for the council in procuring animals it might require. It was stated that the Trust was in touch with many sources of supply and had facilities for handling, , boxing, and feeding the animals. It could also keep the animals at Taronga Park until the council was ready to accommodate them. The letter also stated that the Trust was expecting consignments from America and South Africa about the end of the year, and if the council required any animals of similar species the Trust could increase the number on order by cabling to their agents. The matter wag referred to'the Parka Committee.
ERECTION 01' STONE WALL. CANCELLATION OF CONTRACT. The contractora for the erection of the stone wall at the Zoological Gardens have discontinued the work, which ia now being carried out by the city engineer. A report on the matter, presented by the engineer to the council last evening, stated that owing to the contractors having misread the specifications they had tendered lor a wall different from the one specified. The engineer, therefore, had arranged for the termination of the contract, and the contractors had agreed to accept in settlement for the work done and the material on the job the sum ot £47 lis 3d, the contractors' deposit of £60 to be refunded. The cancellation of the contract on the terms stated was approved.
