EXPLOSION ON ADRIATIC
LINER REACHES NEW YORK
HEROIC ENGINEER DYING. A. and N:Z. NEW YORE. Aug. 14.
Officials of the White Star line, after investigation, are unable to discover the cause of the explosion on the Adriatic, which was docked on Sunday. It is believed to have been due to spontaneous combustion.
Mr. Corrigan, second engineer, who entered the burning bunker in the face of almost certain death and dragged out the bodies, is dying in hospital here.
The passengers contributed £1950 to the families' of the victims, and sent a memorial to Captain David praising the coolness of the entire crew.
