Tho memorandum from (he Vatican with regard to religious toleration in Russia was discussed at the Genoa Conference to-day. M. Burthen moved its reference to the sub-commission. Mr. Lloyd George said that tliere was no stronger supporter of religious freedom than himself. The subject had a matter of conflict everywhere. Ho suggested an inquiry to ascertain tho real position in Russia.
M. Jaspar (Belgium) pressed the Holy Seo's request.
Mr. Lloyd George replied that ho did not sco what action could be taken without- infringing Russia's rights. Ho agreed that the Nolo should be referred to the sub-commission. Tho Pope had been a good friend of the conference, but ho (Mr. Lloyd George) was quite certain that Ilis Holiness would not press the memorial to a point which would endanger the peace of Eastern Europe.
