DISAPPOINTED PRINCESS.

The historic Darya-i-nur diamond, owned by Princess Fatiina, Sultana of Afghanistan, was sold by auction for 55C0 dollars (£1100) in order to liquidate liens on the diamond, totalling more than 4000 dollars (£800). Tlie Princess had not paid various hotel bills and attorney's fees. Immcdiatelv before the auction she refused an offer of 9500 dollars (£1900) for the jewel, hoping to obtain 300,000 dollars (£60,000), with which to send her three sons, who were present at the auction, to Oxford.
The Darva-i-nur is a rectangular stone weighing about 186 carats, and was formerly in the possession of the Shah of Persia.
