SEARCH FOR MANUREWA.
NAVY DEPARTMENT DECLINES. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CBeod. 7.20 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 10. The agents for the overdue barque Mamirewa requested the Navy Department to send a search vessel. In declining tho request, the department advised the agents to charter a tug ! .o search the coastal •waters. So far, no definite steps have been taken to make a ss-i-ch, but outgoing ships, including the survey ship Fanthom, en route to the Torres Straits, hav© been instructed to keep «• sharp lookout.
The refusal of the Navy Department to search for the Manurewa has aroused indignation in shipping circles. Two hatches washed ashore at Crowdy Head were brought to Sydney for examination, but they proved not to be from the missing vessel.
