GEORGE VESEY STEWAET.
MEMORIAL AT KA'fIKATI. [by telegraph. ~own corhespondesiJ TAURANGA, Wednesday. A monument to the memory of the late Mr. George Vesey Stowart was unveiled at Katilcati yesterdiy by Sir William Hemes, who paid a tribute to the deceased s work in bringing numerous settlers to New Zealand and to the part he had taken in advancing the interests of the Katikati district. Tho monument is of granite standing about 9ft. high and the cost was met by subscriptions' from friends of tho deceased in the Katikati, Tawanga, and Te Puke districts. The memorial bears the following inscription :—"ln memory of George Vesey Stewart, founder of the Katikati and Te Puke settlements, 1875 to 1878. Died March 3, 1920; aged 88."
