OLD COLONIST'S DEATH.
MRS. E. J. ROSS.
An old and respected resident of Taranaki, Mrs, Elizabeth Janet Ross, died last week at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. T. S. Scown, of Otahuhu. Mrs. Ross, who was in her 72nd year, was born in Glasgow, and after the death of her parents, the late Mr, ar.d Mrs. William Barnes, came to New Zealand with her uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. McLean, 56 years ago. Shy lived with her husband in Taranaki for 43 years. many of which were spent in fanning in the Moumahaki and Urenui districts. Latterly she had resided at Hastings, and she was on a vis.it to her daughters when the end came. Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband, three sons (Messrs. E. G., S., and J. W. Ross), and three daughters, Mrs. T. S. Scown (Otahihu). Mrs. J. Matthews (Patea), and Mrs. W. D. D McDonald (West Tamakii.
MR, HENRY WILLIAM MOORE. [Bt TELEGRAPH.—OWN CO-RESPONDENT.] WAIIII. Wednesday. The death has occurred of Mr. Henry William Moore, ag-d 78 years. Coming to Auckland with his parents in 1847, he received his education there. In 1367 he went to Thames, and engaged in mining pursuits for a few years. In 1883 ho took the management, of tho Cambria mine, which paid £79,'357 in dividends while he was in charge, and subsequently of the May Queen, Lone Hand, Komata'and Waiteka,uri mines. Ho was manager of the last-named mine for three years. In December, 1896, he was appointed to the management of the Waihi Silverton Extended, the engagement terminating at the end of 1899. Mr. Moore was a roembor of the Sir Walter Scott Lodge of Freemasons, and was at, one time a member of the Thames Borough Council. He carried on business as a timber merchant in Waihi until quite Tie d* ceased was a widows
