NEWMAN DEFEATS SMITH.

EASY WIN FOR FALKINER.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 18.

T. Nowraan (16,000) defeated W. Smith (15,697) in the final of the professional billiards tournament. The match was keenly contested, both players giving brilliant displays. Tho greatest interest was shown by the public, and there were queues of people awaiting admission before each session. The breaks made during the week included : — Newman : 467, 423, 367, 357, 350, 310, 302 (twice), 218, 211. Smith: 450, 290, 289, 252, 223 (twice), 221 208. In the final session Newman made a break of 234 unfinished, and Smith a break of 243.

C. Falkiner (16.000) defeated C. McConachy, the New Zealander, who scored 13,507, included 2000 conceded by his opponent. Qn Friday, McConachy made a break of 675, his record with ivory balls, and in the concluding session he made a break of 538.
