THE BOXING RING.
LEWIS DEFEATS GUMMER.
KNOCK-OUT IN FIRST ROUND. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Feb. 17. In the presence of a targe crowd at the Dome, in Brighton, formerly the Royal Assembly stables, Kid Lewiß knocked out Tom Guromer in the first round. *Gummer was a pound overweight, so the middle-weight championship wan not involved.
When the gong sounded Lewis immediately rushed in and put in heavy blows, bringing Gummer down. At the count of nine Gummer rose and returned to the fight, but a hard right from Lewis knocked him out 135 seconds after the start.
It was definitely announced from the ring that Carpentier, who was present, would fight Lewis, probably in April.
