CARO CUP. The second annual inter-club rice for tho Caro Cup was decided on Saturday under control of the Auckland limvinr Club. Fmir crews—Auckland No. I. Auckland No. i, St. I George, and Waitemata—fated tie starter. The starter got the crews away ir. splendid style, and St. Ceorge quickly moved into the Mead. I At St. Mary's Bay the West End Club 'rowed a se" of trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. and Mrs. iLyo. Keen racing and close finishes were the order of the day. In the fust heat the crews were: Bright, Gulliver. Cowley. Francis; Courtney, Shilling, Conway, McKinlay. From the word | "Go" the crews raced on almost even terms. I Toward the flush Bnght's crew forged ahead ; and won by 2ft. ; In the second heat the crews were: Cm- ! pan, Spencer, Renvey, Ryan; Norden, New--1 dick, Swanson, Francis. From a good start, I Norden quickly gained a slight lead and, j increasing his advantage, won by about half a length. • I In the third heat tho crews wur: Wheeler, j Virtue, Carter, Gray: Edgar, Taylor, Barber, Walsh/ From a good start the crews raced on even terms until the final stages, when Wheeler spurted and won by nearly ' a length. In the final the strokes were Nor- , den. Bright, and Wheeler. Tie race pro- ! vided a fitting finish. The crews remained i level until about half-way. A dash was then made for the lead, and in a hard race Wheeler's crew won by half a length, with Bright second and Norden third.

WAITEMATA BOATING CLUB. The annual "At Home" of the Waitematj, Boating Club was held at the clubhouse, King's Drive, on Saturday afternoon. A set of trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. Foreman were rowed, and close finishes wer« witnessed. The crews that faced the starter in the first heav were: Herd, Cairns, Lowe, Corson; Lindsay, Johnston, Marshall, Croom. An even race throughout. Herd won on the post by half a length. In the second neat the crewa were: Brooker, Lucas, Edson, Cullar; Kelburn, Pearce, Goodall, Smith. A hard-rowed race, won by Kelburn by half a length. In the third heat Herd replaced Waifgram, and the crews were: Herd, Patterson. Kelly, Boag; Bryant. Mackay. Inslis. Chorley. Nearing the finishing line, Herd spurted and won by a length. The semi-final proved a downfall for Lindsay's crew, being defeated by Kelburn's by nearly a length, The strokes in the final were Kelburn and Herd. Until half tho course was covered the issue was in doubt; then Herd forged ahead aud won by a length.
