RESAIL OF GENERAL HANDICAP. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's general handicap for the Hardic trophy, which was declared off on January 28 on account of the boats being unable to finish before! sunset, was rcsafled on Saturday afternoon. A light north-north-east wind was blowine when the race started at 2.30 p.m., but as there wae every indication of tho breeze falling, the race was decided on the completion of the first round of the course. The competitors wore: Ariki, Waione, Moana, Scout, Heartsease and Victory. From a poor start Waiono was first away, closely followed by Moana, About a minute later came Victory and then Ariki, Heartsease and Scout in that order. The leaders were now well in front, the advantage gainod at the start being made the most of. OS Judge's Bay Moana passed, Waione, and when approaching the Bastion beacon the latter was overhauled by Ariki which in the meantime had overtaken Victory. Rounding the beacon for the beat out to Rangitoto Channel mark tho ordor was; Moana, Ariki, Waione Victory, Heartsease, Scout. Ariki stood well on starboard before going' about, the othors throwing round on to port nfter passing the Bastion. Victory passed Waione when they broke tacks on the first board, but on the second.the latter weathered her rival. Ariki continued her lead, followed by Moana. and when the Rangitoto reef beacon was reached Victory again headed Waione. Tho order of the vachts rounding this mark was: Ariki. Moana. Victory, Waione, Heartsease, and Scout. Spinnakers were set for the run back to the Bastion mark, the times of the boats making the turn hero being: Ariki. 4h lm 48s; Moana. 4h 11m 4s; Victory. 4h 21m 103; Waione, 4h 22m ss, Heartsease, 4h 26m 355; Scout, 4h 29m. 80s. The wind was now very light, and with a strong ebb tide progress up the harbour was slow. The conditions, suited Moana, and on the lead to, the finishing mark she closed up on Ariki while Waione passed Viotory. tho finish between these two boats being very interesting.. After passing the Bastion Victory stood in toward the southern Tore to dodge the tide, while Wum kept further out. Victory. slipped through the water faster than Waione approaching the finishing line, but had. a longer course to sail through standing va so close and was beaten across the line by Waiono by 9s. The finishing times were: Anto (eer-K 4n Mm 255): Moana ttOm), ih Urn S3s : Wmom (16mlTil 60m 275; Victory (8m 80s), 4h toSSs; Heartsease (14m 80s), 4h Mm 9s; Scout (Mm), 4h 66m 675.
