A REJECTED LOVER.
' RETURNS WITH A GUN, FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULT. [BX telecbaph.—press association.] CHrUSTCHUBCH, Tuesday. At the Supreme Court to-day charges were preferred against Oscar Price of having at Kaituna, on Octooer 22, attempted to discharge a loaded gun at Albert Newton and Annie Duncan with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and having assaulted each of the parties named. Accused was engaged to a girl, but she broke it off because of his jealousy. On October 22, Newton and Miss Duncan were, sitting at tea when the accused entered the room and presented a gun at the girl. Newton took the weapon away from him, and found that the accused had attempted to discharge it. Accused was peculiar in his manner but not irresponsible. Counsel for the accused said the accused was a man of poor mentalitv, and it would be a hard task to prove" that he had guilty intention in his mind when he appeared in the room with the gun. The jury, after an hour's retirement, brought in a verdict of guilty of assault by pointing the gun at Miss Duncan. Sentenoe waa deferred until Friday.
