N.S. WALES ELECTIONS.
SELECTION OF CANDIDATES.
CAUCUS OVERRIDES GOVERNMENT A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Jan. 9. A protracted and lively meeting of the executive of the Australian Labour Party defeated a Government proposal that the selection of candidates at the coming election should be left in Government brads, and decided that electoral councils conduct their own election ballots. This is regarded as a blow to the Government, which urged the need for immediate preparedness in view of the nearness of the elections, and therefore favoured leaving the selections in the hands of the executive.
