STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone, of the Auckland Stock Exchange was firm again yesterday. Government stocks were in good demand, with sellers in the main holding firmly. Business was done in Soldiers' Loan at £92 2* 6d, and Soldiers' Loan (inscribed stock) at £92 2s 6d. In banks New Zealands were asked for at 48s 3d, sellers 495. New South Wales had demand at £54 15s. no i sellers quoting. In insurances New ZeaI lands were again sought at 27s 6d, closing | at 27s 9d. with sellers holding firmly at ! 28s 6d. Nationals were in demand at 58s, ! sellers 61s. In South British business was i done at 555, wtUt more inquiry at the I same price, sellers closing at 35s 3d. In i gas Auckland (con.) were quoted, buyers i 17s 2d. sellers 18s (ex div.). In shipping P. and 0. (deferred stock) closed wiih de- | niand at £350, sel'ers £570. Huddart- ! Parkers were'sought at 465. sellers withj drawing at 475. In nriscelaneous Auckland Tramways (pref.) were asked for at ! 15s 9d, closing at 15s 6d. with no sellers offering. Wilsons (N'.Z.) Cements were in demand at 14s sd. sellers not quoting. Mining* stocks were firmly held, there being no transactions. Talismans were again sought at 6s Id, sellers holding at 6s 2d. Waihis were in demand at 29s 3d, closing at 29s 6d, with sellers asking 30s. I Grand Junctions closed firm at 10s 3d. with inquiries at 9s 7d.
