CONTROL OF CONVENTS.
AN ACRIMONIOUS , DEBATE. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Dec. 8. There was an acrimonious debate in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly over Mr. Henley's motion to provide against the detention of persons in any institutions against their, will, and with penalties for infringement of the liberty of the subiect. A section of the Assembly accepted the Bill as aimed at convents. Mr. Minahan declared: "If you in any way interfere with these Roman Catholic 1 institutions, there will be C mess.up worse than that which occurred on the plains 4 of: I Flanders."
