DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

BUTTER AND CHEESE OUTPUT NEW SEASON'S PRODUCTION. LARGE INCREASE ON LAST YEAR. The early production of butter and cheese for the Auckland district indicates that the current season's output will be considerably above that of last season. The early operations this season were somewhat .retarded owing to late frosts, bat during the last few weeks conditions have been extremely favourable for the growth of pasture. This has been reflected in the output of prodoar, and with a continuance of - seasonable weather the increased production evidenced . during the early-' part- of * the season, as compared with the similar period of last season, should be maintained. The dry, weather experienced during last -spring and in the early summer had the effect cf keeping down the, early. output, but the Exceptionally favourable conditions during; the autumn compensated for the restricted early output, and the season was one of - the best yet experienced' in respect to production. This..year the dairy farmers, inspired by the likelihood of advanced prices for both, butter and cheese, have increased their herds, and are making every effort to obtain full advantage of the favourable market. The quantity of butter received into the Farmers' Freezing Company's grading stores to the end of September, totals 73,659 boxes, compared with 17,563 boxes for the corresponding period of last season. . Allowance - has to be made in computing -last season's total for approximately 20,000 i boxes that were not "received;' at the grading stores, owing to being ; sent to u the". South So - relieve an acute shortage in the early, pari- of the season. . Even with the; addition of 20,000 boxes to last season's total this year's production to the end of September shows ; an increase of 36,096 boxes.. The quantity * received during last month. -was 55,174 boxes, compared with 15,645 during September, -1919,-an" increase -of 39,529. As -an ■ indication -of the increase in butter production this .season it; is worthy of note that for the'week ended last Saturday 18,064 boxes -were received at the grading stores. . In.only one wsek during the flush of last season did the receipts at the. stores total more than 20,000 boxes. The-greatest total for a/week during the flush of the present season is expected to exceed ibis amount.. The stores "-axe.expected- to bo "cleared .of *j last season's, butter this week. None of this, season's jproduction has yet been exported to Britain; fShough some has been sent to America,; consignment of 6000 boxes. having; been taken to Vancouver by the Tahiti on ffeat vessel's last trip. It 'is '.anticipated that • regular' shipments will be made to Canada tins season.' -.• The cheese production to date .this season - shews a large ■ increase that -of , last season for a similar period/"To the end of September last 13,649 crates were received at the grading stores,' cornoared with 6057 crates for a, similar period-last season. During September ] this year 11.109 crates were received, compared with : 5659f0r September, 1919, an increase of 5450. *_. _• f" ■ ■ ■ .-.-■■ ■■■■:-
