THE FISHING SEASON.
PROSPECTS AT ROTORUA. TROUT VERY PLENTIFUL. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. So far as the Tirau district is concerned the prospects for a good fishing season are not bright. A party of three who visited the district during the week assiduously fished the Orakau and Waihou streams but with a poor measure of success. Very few fish were seen and the opinion was expressed that the permitting of worm fishing in the past had been the means of sadly depleting the streams. The few fish caught were of excellent colour and condition and the anglers were of opinion that if the streams were closed for two seasons there would) be a great .improvement in the fishing. On the other hand prospects at Rotoruaare most encouraging. A well-known Rotorua angler stated to-day that he had never seen more fish in the Ro)torua streams than at the present time. The Fairy Springs stream, he said, was alive with large fibh which, owing to their numbers, seemed to find difficulty in swimming comfortably. He stated that from present indications the Rotorua season should be highly successful.
