Lieutenant-Colonel A. F. Batcbelar, of the 6th (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles, has been invested with the insigni of the Order of the Nile, third class. The recipient left New Zealand as a lieutenant in the Main Body, and served with the Mounted Rifles on Gallipoli and subsequently against the Turkish forces on tha Sinai Peninsula and in Palestine, the operations culminating in the complete surrender of the Turkish army in October. 1918. During the latter campaign he wag wounded, received promotion, and eventually attained command of his regiment. Lieutenant-Colonel Batchelar also served with the New Zealanders in th South African War.
