MINISTERS' MOVEMENTS.
Sir James Allen, Minister for Defence, will be tendered a farewell dinner in Wellington on Saturday evening by MajorGeneral Sir E. W. C. Chaytor and officer? of the Defence Department. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
WELCOME TO THE MODERATOR. The Rev. J. A. Asher, of Napier, Tiioder. ator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, was present at a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery last evening and was given a very hearty welcome, speakers testifying to the qualities of Mr. Asher, not only as a moderator but as a Christian gentleman, whose calm dignity had given a fine atmosphere to the General Assembly. Replying, Mr. Asher expressed his pleasure at being in an atmosphere of such. « great goodwill. He mentioned that the Napier charge had come into existen. e in . 1857 through a visit of the Rev. Dealing with church problems, he said that the difficulties were not so great for ministers 30 years ago. In a few helpful words he , quoted Canon Streeter's statement that Christian neonle were living far below the level of the Ufa they ought to live.
