BONUS FOR FAMILIES.
TECHNICAL SCHOOL STAFF, BOARD ADOPTS PRINCIPLE. £10 FOR EACH CHILD UNDER 18. The question of bonuses for the staff of the Seddon Memorial Technical College was discussed at a meeting of the Board of Managers last evening, and it was decided to adopt the principle of subsidising families. <• The director, Mr. George George, said it was proposed-that all married men should . be granted a bonus of £20 for the year, with an additional amount of £10 for each child under the age of 16. Mr. T. Bloodworth said he agreed with the principle, but expressed the opinion, that it could only be carried out in connection with public institutions. Under such a system only men without children -would get work with private employersThe chairman, Mr. G. W. Murray, said the principle was worth adopting and should serve as a model for other institu--3 tions. Mrr C. R. Munro advocated the payment for children till they had reached the age of 18. He said that obviously the idea was to assist the family until the children were able to earn something for themselves. Every child should be given the opportunity of acquiring sufficient education to enable it to matriculate, and this could not be accomplished under the age of 17. 6 Other speakers supported Mr. Munro's • suggestion, and the age limit was extended to 18 years.
