LIBELLER OF SOLDIERS. INSULTS IN VERSE. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 8 J. W. McDoiigall, an ex-member of the Labour party in the House of Representatives, who ;|dmitted writing offensive verses about soldiers, •was seized by a party of returned men at his home near Ararat, He was stripped, tarred, and feathered, and released in a crowded street in Ararat. McDougall wrote a poem at the time of the South African War, which during the Great War was frequently republished. It refers to soldiers as sordid killers who would murder for a fee, and adds: " Hog-souled and dirty-handed, ye sell yourselves for gain, " And stand forever branded, red felons after gain.'! J
