SULPHURIC ACID SUPPLIES.
MANUFACTURE IN CANTERBURY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. The position in regard to the sulphuric acid industry was referred to during today's deputation to the Prime Minister. In his reply Mr. Massey stated that he had made arrangements in Australia to have supplies of sulphuric acid sent to New Zealand. Mr. G. W. Witty, M.P., interjected that acid was being made in Canterbury. Mr. Massey replied that there ought to be sufficient made in New Zealand to supply local requirements. Mr. H. J. Marriner said the works had shut down because they had too much sulphuric acid in hand. " That is extraordinary," said Mr. Massey. " Merchants have been complaining because they could not get it and they asked me to have arrangements made tor supplies and this has been done. I am glad to hear that you have an industry here for the manufacture of sulphuric acid By present appearances we will require a very large quantity in future years if we get those phosphates from Nauru '*
