BOXING IN BRITAIN.
REAPPEARANCE OF DRISCOLL,
A GLORIOUS DEFEAT.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Eecd. 12.30 &.hj.) LONDON, Oct. 20.
Ledoux, the French bantam, defeated Jim Driscoll, the former feather-weight champion, after a 16round bout. For fourteen rounds Driscoll gave a superb display of both offensive and defensive fighting, winning every round. Ledoux, fighting with wonderful strength, in the fifteenth round landed a- left and right to the body and face of his opponent. Driscoll avoided many dangerous punches, but had clearly weakened. The sixteenth round had only gone half a minute when DrisooH's seconds threw in the sponge. Only a man of great stamina could have lasted as Driscoll, whose defeat was as glorious as his many victories.
Matt. Wells, the English lightweight, defeated Kid Carter, the American light-weight, on points after '.',O rounds. Carter had the better of the fighting in the opening rounds, Wells swinging his punches instead of delivering them direct. Carter inflicted several upper-cuts. A change came in the ninth round, in which Wells boxed at a. great rate, hooking his opponent severely. Wells, in the tenth round, fought as he did in his amateur days, delivering admirable straight lefts. Thenceforward he gave a fine display, and was a clear winner on points.
