SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.
PLEA FOR CONSIDERATION.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
DUNEDIN, Saturday,
The question of granting to South African veterans privileges on similar lines to those granted to ex-soldiers of the last war has been raised in Parliament on more than one occasion of late. At various centres action hms been taken by veterans with a view to obtaining concessions.
A meeting with the same purpose in view was held at Invercargill on Wednesday night. The meeting decided to reform the defunct Southland South African Troopers' Association, and all present were formed into a committee.
During the subsequent discission, although those present were not in any way covetous of the repatriation privileges granted to returned soldiers of the great war, they strongly held the opinion that something on similar lines should be done for Boer War veterans, especially in regard to business loans and advances for taking up land, and building residences.
It was decided to write to the Prime Minister Sir Joseph Ward, and the Hon. J. A. Hanan, protesting against the disparity meted out to South African soldiers as compared with those returning from the last war.
