HOME RULE POLICY.
CAMPAIGN FOR SUPPORT. CONFERENCES AT DUBLIN. UNFAVOURABLE ATMOSPHERE Br TclesraDh—Press AssociationCoDyriebt. (Received 7.30 p.m.) Times. LONDON. Oct. 16, A series of private dinners and consultations in Dublin have been arranged at which Mr. J. L Macpherson, Chief Secretary for Ireland, Lord Birkenhead, Lord Chancellor, and other Government representa- '' tives will attempt to -win support for the latest version of the Home Rule policy. The atmosphere outside official circles continues unfavourable. Even the Constitutional Nationalists are not convinced of the Government's sincerity. Comment in the Freeman's Journal typifies current feeling. The j paper says: The movement which threw Ireland into chaos heaved Lord Birkenhead on to the woolsack. Anything which he fabricates can be regarded only as a constitutional decoy and will meet with contemptuous rejection."
