(Reed. 7.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 17. 5. syndicate has located the wreck of ( the ship Monumental City, which was lost off Gabo Island in 1854. Search is proceeding for 150,000 sovereigns; rumoured to be aboard, though there is considerable doubt as to the correctness of the rumour. PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND. RESIGNATION OF HIS SEAT. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE. Oct. 17. Mr. T. J. Ryan has resigned his seat in tie Queensland Parliament, preparatory to contesting the Sjdney West seat in the Federal House of Representatives. In the meantime he continues to act as Premier. Mr. Ryan's retention of the Premiership after resigning his seat is adversely commented upon. It is admitted that he has acted within the letter of the Constitution, but has, it is affirmed, ignored the Governor, to whom he was in duty bound to tender his resignation. Speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday, the Federal Treasurer, ! Mr. \V. A. Watt, stated that the cost of removing the capital to Canberra would be £3,250,000. USE OF NARCOTIC DRUGS. INCREASE IN VICTORIA. MELBOURNE. Oct. IT. The report of Inspector of Inebriate Institutions emphasises the increasing use of narcotic drugs in Victoria. (
