Mr. Lloyd George, speaking at Sheffield, made an eloquent appeal to the nation to settle down to work in earnest and increase national production. The National Debt prior to the war was £645,000,000 ; to-day it' was nearly £8,000,000,000. The whole nation had to bear a heavier burden than ever before. The labouring classes had higher wages and shorter hours and a better standard of living than ever before, and they dreaded a return to pre-war conditions. There was only one mode of escape from this. They must increase the national income iby increasing national production.
