ESCAPE FROM ESCORT.
ONE SOLDIER RECAPTURED. KEY UNFASTENS HANDCUFF. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Oct. 16. Latest details regarding the escape of six military prisoners who jumped off a train near Basingstoke, show that only one man was actually a member of the Australian Imperial Forces. The others were attached to various British units, though they iray have been born in Australia, as the Winchester camp was used for Commonwealth soldiers who joined up with the British Army and chose to be repatriated. One was recaptured during the night, and the police are on the track of three others. The affray commenced with a prisoner quietly unfastening his handcuff with a key, seizing a bayonet from the guard, and threatening to stab any of the escort who gave, the alarm. The other prisoners joined in, and seized the guards' rifles. Bloodhounds may be used to scour the woods if the prisoners are not traced quickly.
