OBITUARY.

DEATH OF OLD COLONIST. MR. NATHANIEL WILSON. Mr- Nathaniel Wilson, one of the oldest residents of Warkworth, died at his residence in that township on Tuesday in hie 83rd year after a. short illness. Bom in Scotland in November, 1836, Mr Wilson arrived in Auckland with his parents in the ship' Duchess of Argyle in October, 1842. After living for some years in Auckland and on Kawati Island, Mr. Wilson joined the rush to -he " diggings" in Victoria in the early fifties. He soon returned to New Zealand, and settled in Warkworth in 1859. residing there ever since. For some years he followed his trade as a shoemaker, and then, with his two brothers, Messrs. James and John Wilson, he started lime works under the name of John Wilson and Co. Later the manufacture of cement was ad-Jed, and as the business expanded the Wilsons Portland Cement Company was formed, in which the Wilscn brothers and their eons have taken a leading part. Always taking a keen interest in local and general politics, Mr. Wilson was one of the first chairmen of the Rodney County Council, and when the Warkworth Town District was formed he was elected chairman of the board, a position which he held till about five years ago, when increashßg age compelled him to retire from active public life. Four sons and five daughters are left to mourn their loss, Mrs. Wilson and one son having passed away previously.
