SOCIETY OF ARTS.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Society of Arts wae held last evening in the rooms. Coburg Street, the president. Mr. Bart. Kent, in the chair. There was a good attendance.

In moving the adoption of the annual report, a summary of which was published in the Herald 'on September 10. the president commented upon the high standard of art attained by the artists exhibit ing with the society. He considered its exhibitions would bear very favourable comparison with these of provincial towns in Britain of the same size as Auckland The society had closed the fast year with a credit balance of £363. It was no part of its duty to build up a large reserve, but the council was aiming at getting away from a state of inipeciiniosity. He referred with regret to the retirement from the council of Messrs. T. W. Levi* and 1.. N. Benjamin.
