DEVONPORT WATER SUPPLY.
SHAFT AT MOUNT CAMBRIA.
FLOW IN BASALTIC ROCK. The operations being carried out by the Devonport Borough Council with the. object of locating a permanent water supply for the borough were discussed yesterday by the Mayor of the borough, Mr. H. S. W. , King la reference to a suggestion that the Borough Council should take over the property of the Devonport Electric Company at the foot of Mount Victoria, on which water had been obtained some time ago, Mr. King stated that when the company had located water on its property, the council had already commenced ; to sink at Mount Cambria, on the othei | side of the -road. This work had been undertaken on the recommendation of the Eev. H. Mason, who expressed the opinion that at Mount Cambria would be found the main supply of which the Mount Victoria flow was a tributary. This opinion was endorsed by Mr, E. K. Mnlgan, who based hiq conclusion on the geological formation of the country. Mr. King added that the council wai> now awaiting a further visit by Mr. Mason to obtain his opinion as to whether they could expect to locate the main flow in the basaltic rock. Water had been reached in this rock in.the Mount Cambria shaft, and before appropriating further sums for continuing the work it was desired to obtain a farther report. The supply obi tained by the Electric Company had been [located at the junction of the basaltic and ! sedimentary rock.
