SNOWSTORM IN SOUTH.
HEAVY FALL REPORTED. SQUALL IN CHRiSTGHTJIICH. CELEBRATIONS AFFECTED. [BY TEUfciRATE.— ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A fierce southerly squall struck the city at about five o'clock this afternoon. A heavy hailstorm set in and snow fell steadily until shortly after nine o'clock. There was then fully 2in of snow on the ground. At a late hour rain was falling, with intermittent snow showers. The sudden change in the weather conditions will detrimentally affect the many out-door gatherings arranged in connection, with the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand. Very little information was obtainable from country districts to-night, but a heavy fall generally is reported.
